Working title only – Songs with no destination is a group of original songs that don’t really fit any of the other group criteria.
Hazel Eyes – A poem written by my daughter Joanna. I put it to music and have recorded it here. I think she got the gist of what I was trying to do with my musical attempts and also saw the enjoyment I had in performing it.
Do it all again – I wrote this from a fictitious character’s viewpoint of the world of the drunk. Having seen it all around me in the pub scene, it was hard to ignore it. Meant to be in the Irish drinking song idiom.
The Race is On – A sea shanty story telling song. Created after reading about the spice trade and the races the China Clippers had to get into port first. – Quirky finish
Way to precious – There was a certain person that was always a touchy person to be around, and often showed this in hurtful comments. He didn’t take to criticism very well either and he reminded me of a number of lines in other songs, thus the chorus was written. Obviously no names here – long parted
Murphy’s drinking song – wrote this for Skibbereen to work on during a period of time where we had a semi residency at the Irish Murphy’s pub.(unfortunately it is no more) Never got around to it though. It also has a little risqué twist
You were there for me – A song for the greatest lady in my life – Rose. – who still puts up with me.
Listen to this man – My selfish composers song. I guess – like any composer and musician – I want my songs to be heard
Tyquins lane – My mothers maiden name is Tyquin. My first Irish band was Tyquins lane – so named for the original Tyquin house, built by my forefathers in 1856 in Taradale, and situated down Tyquin street. This was a band theme song to start most gigs and introduce the mood of the evening – great times and memories. It is unfortunate that Tyquins Lane never did any recording. It was a very busy working band made up of part time musos with full time talent!
